IOL Fundamentals

Project Overview

In collaboration with a team member, I led the development of an eLearning module from concept to storyboard. This module, part of the Clinical Fundamental Series, aimed to demystify Intraocular Lenses (IOLs) for learners, focusing on the science behind IOLs without aligning with any specific brand.

Objectives

Our goal was to provide a detailed exploration of IOL types, materials, and the technology behind them, offering learners a solid foundation in ophthalmology essentials. The project sought to make this complex subject matter accessible and engaging, without any brand bias.

My Contribution

As a first-time Learning Designer with a background in senior research science, I played a pivotal role in:

  • Planning and outlining content to ensure a coherent and informative module.
  • Coordinating with clients to align the project with their expectations and incorporating feedback at crucial stages.
  • Leading client walkthroughs to demonstrate progress and refine the module based on their input.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to confirm the feasibility of development in Storyline software.
  • Implementing innovative strategies to enhance the learning experience.
  • Prioritising project tasks and adapting work hours to maintain smooth progress.
  • Responding adaptively to subject matter expert comments to refine content accuracy and relevance.

Reflection

As a novice in the field of learning design, I wanted to make sure that my contributions to this project effectively advanced it. After giving the topic some thought, I saw how important it is to simplify difficult scientific ideas into information that students can understand. Through my engagement, I was able to gain a deeper grasp of instructional design while also realising how important it is to work collaboratively and communicate clearly in order to navigate the complexities of project objectives and client expectations.
